This is a poem I wrote back in 2001, expressing a great longing for freedom and desire to just 'take off' for once.
with no more
arms or legs
like strings
which can be pulled
in this direction
or that
with no more
feelings of
love or pain
but the single
need to spread my wings
to take off,
then I would
fly high
into the skies
till the air
grew too thin
to breathe
fly among
thunder and hail
be burnt out
by the extremes
till my wings
broke down
like a tree
in the storm,
leaving me with
the sensation
of having lived
freedom
lived heaven
once in my lifetime
