The wonder of nature.

Observations on a sunny day

Sheep
nursery in the great outdoors,
gentle shade amongst the nettles, under withered wind blown tree
sleeping lambs.
Sun warming the ground, giving short stemmed grass
sweet flavour.
Newly borns bleating, mums baa in response,
sound and scent allow joyous reunion.
Cows lying on the warm baked earth, chewing cud, storing their milk for the
evening milking.
A haven in the middle of the great city.
Bequeathed by the ladies who forsaw the creeping concrete,
buildings covering once wild pasture and bush
deep in the countryside.
Roofs among the trees - cranes reaching up towards blue sky
reminders of our countries growth.
Distant sounds of traffic muted by those same trees,
planted to soak up fume filled air.
Children calling in excited voices who see for the first time
open spaces,
animals who give us food, eggs and milk,
not plucked from the shelves in plastic bottles or cardboard cartons
but part of the cycle of life on a farm.
