Just Before Dawn
Shivering in the chilly air just before dawnDarkness surrounds me though the promise of light is minutes away
Several deer stand at the lake's edge drinking before silently retreating
into the cool, green canopy
They allow me the luxury of tears without question
They do not fear me, they know me
I am here always
Drinking in the beauty and serenity around me
The warmth of the rising sun dries my tears
The last white tail disappears into the dense foliage
While I disappear into the dense uncertainty that is my future
