My daughter has written a book on postpartum depression and ask that i write some poetry for her book. I wrote this from the perspective of one in the grips of depression.

Inside The Storm

Here comes the darkness
Here comes the gloom
Here come the walls closing in the room
There goes the laughter
There goes the sun
There goes life coming undone

Where is the light
Where is the smile
Where is the hope
Why all the trials
How can a moment last for a year
How can joy change to tears

When will the storm come to its end
When will the day become a friend
When will the night die to the day
When will God show me the way

Why all the sadness
Why all the pain
Why's all purity left with a stain

How DID i MISS this!

A beautifully educational poem
that touches all the cruel facets of
postpartem and all depressions.
Postpartem depression is so cruel
because it robs mothers of those
first wonderful weeks and months
of bonding with their miracles, those
llittle human beings that lived and sprung
from their bodies. It robs the babies too
of that special, most important boding
tme. This wonderful poem goes a long
way to explain the utter cruelty of that
lost time and the helpless ness of the
mother to do anything about it.

Depression comes and it sits like a big black cloud - very expressive of those times - well done to your daughter also for writing about post partum depression - a friend of mine suffered badly with that for a long time - and as a result of it, was told she should never have another baby.

Any type of depression is a form of hell on earth, and with out help will be difficult to deal with if not impossible, your description within this poem is very apt, your daughter must be as proud of you as you are of her.

Postpartum depression almost took my life at 21 .
I still remember the darkness with shivers .
This poem both beautiful and hard to read , you did so excellent in your descriptions .
I also liked the form of this write , short , shifting and the last line _ makes this write a very important one .
Thank you mother
for this excellent piece .

your daughter is doing a very good thing writing about this ... I belive it must be hell to become depressed after you have given birth to a child .... it is in those times we can really see what our bodies chemistry can do with us ...

and so many people suffer and feel ashamed for having depressions in all walks of life it is a terrible sickness and it is not something you just "pick yourself up from" it is a chemistry thing...

your poem is really good and I belive it gives a peek into this state ... I am happy life seapred me this

please send my best wishes and well done to your daughter ...
