society love before, during and after the war

For the exceedingly boring there is always Goring by M.A.Meddings

For the exceedingly boring
There is always Goring.

By M.A.Meddings

We'll go up the river next Whitsun,
with my parents in 'Sweet Lady Jane'
It should be quite fun,
And I do hope you'll come.
But whatever, I'll love you the same.

Last night you said I looked so pretty,
in my dress with the Mimulus on
But my sister although,
Thought the neckline too low,
Yet she wants you as well, don't you know.

The family has moorings at Lechlade,
and Abingdon's not really far,
For the exceedingly boring,
There is always Goring,
But to get there we must use the car.

At Pangbourne's a very nice restaurant,
with romantic views of the weir,
I do hope we'll go
For the passion is low,
Has Hermione found what I fear?

Is she flashing her smile much too often?
My sister is really a flirt,
Just simply ignore,
Her dancing's a bore'
If you dared to, it really would hurt.

Aunt Jenny is somewhat a comfort,
she can see that you 'obviously care',
But Hermione knows,
How to tempt and propose,
With her attributes almost quite bare.

The dress she wore last night at dinner,
was much too revealing for me,
But your eyes were my love,
On her cleavage my dove,
And the truth was all there to see.

She has almost taken you from me,
and Abingdon's really not far,
For the exceedingly boring,
There is always Goring,
But to take her you must use the car.

Mother says that I shouldn't be spiteful,
that as sisters we always did share,
But I simply can't do,
What she wants me to,
I could scratch out her eyes and not care.

Hermione said you had kissed her at Henley,
by moonlight and no one could see.
And it's breaking my heart,
That you'd choose such a tart,
Over little old ordinary me.

My sister is quite over powering,
you will never be happy with her,
She has suitors around,
All swooning abound,
And her repute should make you beware.

But I see that she's taken you from me,
that Abingdon's just a bit far,
We went down to Goring,
Found it ever so boring,
And the sex never got very far.

My friend Julia Framlington Derby,
has eyes for your friend Peter Wynn,
Do bring him at Whitsun,
And we'll make a foursome,
For my parents would like to meet him.

Hermione likes your friend Peter,
the fact that he has such a car,
A black Lamboughini,
Was just what she needed?
And with him, she thinks she'll go far.

But Peter is such a nice person,
has told me he loves my red hair,
He's asked me to dinner,
In the pub by the river,
And a table that's just for a pair.

Mummy says that I ought to, not giving a thought to,
if Julia quite understands,
She is such a wise mother,
And I'd have no other
And besides she has beautiful hands.

Hermione's off up to Oxford,
quite good riddance I say.
Her behaviour is fine
For some of the time,
But without her it's good by the way

Last night Peter kissed all of my freckles,
in places you just wouldn't dream,
He started at Goring
Found it ever so boring,
And finished in Maidenhead green.

At Christmas he gave me a present,
silk Gozzard and something to tease
Said he liked the French knickers,
The touch made him quicker
And adored me in my chemise.

So do please come up at Whitsun,
to the wedding and 'Sweet lady Jane'
My parents are anxious,
That I be so gracious,
And Julia's feeling the same.

Hermione's down here from Oxford,
flashing for all to be seen,
I don't mind about her,
Now we haven't to share,
And I've visited Maidenhead green.

It's a pity that we never made it,
found Abingdon just a bit far,
For we both stopped at Goring,
Found it ever so boring,
Then smartly jumped back in the car.

If only we'd kissed when I wanted,
and you'd seen me in my chemise,
And you'd given a care,
For my deep chestnut hair,
And French knickers designed just to please.

Now Peter has gone with another,
a model or something like that,
A real catwalk virgin,
Who needed no urgin?
To whisk him away and that's that.

The war barely touched us at Lechlade,
'cept for Dunkirk and 'Sweet lady Jane'
And dear old Goring,
Stayed ever so boring
Until the Americans came.

The Yanks they were cheeky this morning,
referred to us both as 'sweet dames',
But we'll have our own way,
When they've finished with D- Day,
And out on the loose once again.

Julia's got her an airman,
a Spitfire pilot oh! My!
A real five – o – clock ace,
Has got plenty of pace,
And a penchant for Julia's thigh.

And Hermione's got her a Yankee,
a regular nice kind of guy,
He's a ranch out in Texas
And a fine Solar Plexus,
He will tame my dear sister or die.

So do please come up at Whitsun,
we are re - building 'Sweet lady Jane',
And dear old Goring,
Is still just as boring,
Whilst I'm on my own once again.

If you come we'll take walks by the river,
it really will cause me no pain,
And if you bring the car.
Then Pangbourne's not far
And maybe we'll find love again.

The end

What a story you wrote. It had me captured with it from the start. You kept the rhyme and rhythm all the way through. It is delightful!

looooooooong as it may be (laughing at the other comment on here ;) i read it start to finish and found it to be fresh and (sadly) true to life. nice touch with the geographic places, the names, the narrative. this was geniunely funny (especially when you think of actually goring those boring little cheaters. literally. :))

What a delightful loooooooooong, lilting, rhyming piece, the beauty of it is that though it goes on and on, you can't leave till is far gone, you have to just finish it then, even though it goes on and on... It reminds me of Jane Austin's novels which are a beautiful take on how, marriages and men are all that fill "lady's" mind...A modern day version of Jane Austin, some what...?
