This is almost a true story...

Do you Believe in Fairies?

The fairy in my garden,
is angry and quite cross.
That folk don't think that she is real:
she says that is their loss.

I spoke to her the other day
as on a leaf she sat.
"Norma dear, I've had enough
and that, my dear is that!

For folk to say I don't exist,
nor other elfin things,
it's upsetting all my fairy friends,
enough to rot their wings."

And then she tipped her little wand,
down towards my hair,
"Norma dear, do a job for me,
write to Tony Blair."

Now at this I was most surprised,
my nerves began to shatter.
"I can't write to Tone," I told the fay,
"he'll say that you don't matter."

My little friend, she blew her nose
on a dainty daisy petal.
Tapped her wand again and said,
"Go on girl, grab your metal!"

She flew away in a sparkling mist,
and left me in a spin.
I felt sorry for fairies one and all,
so indoors grabbed my pen.

I sent a letter to Tony Blair,
to support the fairy folk:
"Look here Tone, I'm impelled to write
by a magial fay, and this is no joke.
She wants a statement, made by you,
broadcast to the many and the few,
who don't believe in fairy or elf.
She wants you to say you believe yourself.
That you've seen fairies at Number 10,
you've seen them with Cherie again and again.
To all the world you must declare
that to fairies and elves we are most unfair."

I dropped this letter into the post,
with a lot more trepidation than most.
I must admit to a very great shock,
when three days later my Postie did knock.

He brought a letter from our P.M.,
I read it once, and then once again.
I really couldn't believe my eyes,
for Tony gave me a great surprise.

No long tome did our Tony write,
(he wrote his reply, I think out of fright!)
Five little words, and that was all,
I'll repeat them below for the benifit of all:

"Long Live the National Elf,"
(no, I couldn't believe it myself!!) ...and if you believe this,
you'll believe anything!!!!
