A true happening a true place cc1954
Over walls we did scramble on that long hot summer day,
Two young boys out for adventure who had merely lost their way,
Through overgrown brambles we stumbled my young friend and I,
Till we happed upon a thicket where all the trees reached the sky,
We looked into the undergrowth all dank and quite dark,
For a dare we did enter, just a school boyish lark,
We walked in following a path that at times could barely be seen,
Till we came to a clearing where the grass grew so green,
Shafts of sunlight shone through the branches lighting up our newfound glade,
A scene of tranquillity and magnificence just how nature had made,
We said not a word as we lay amongst wild flowers and trees,
Two chums exploring together doing just whatever they please.
The birds sang so joyously their songs so loud and so clear,
A dove cooed on a high bough with a cuckoo quite near,
We lazed there for hours taking in nature's free show,
Till the shadows they lengthened and for us 'twas time to go.
We took our leave in the dimming light at a leisurely pace,
It was the end of the perfect day, in the most perfect place

My favourite place
