We in Normandie experienced sub zero temperatures prior to the New Year. The stand of silver birches in my garden was completely frozen and in a soft breeze intermittently emitted a strange eerie noise.

The Frozen Birches

Frozen Silver Birches
In the breeze crackle
Icicles dancing on the boughs
Trapped in a sub-zero shackle
An accolade to nature's powers

Inharmoniously
The trees out pour
Sporadic compositions eerily low
Waiting for the promised thaw
To be cleared of ice and frosted snow

The crackle of trees in the bitter wind is such a wonderful prelude to a promised springtime. Beauty in gentle silence..
