Men's militaristic mis-demeanours. 26th June 2007.

Men.

Women have babies,
Women usually raise them
When babies become boys and are considered old enough
Men have wars and kill them.

Men, men, men
Men the whole world over
Men all through the ages
The men-war always rages.

Men always getting it wrong
Yet always there in power
Forever up there in control
Shower after shower.

Women grow the babies
Men grow the battles
Just as immature playing with their guns
Yet more dangerous than they were with their rattles.

If men grew the babies too
Would this improve the things men do?

as a mother of sons, I have often wondered if the physical act of conceiving, carrying and giving birth means that we value life - but that is too easy an argument. I've watched my sons grow - and like girls, they have feelings and conscience. Physically males are more aggressive - you notice the difference from an early age between the sexes. No, I don't think its just men - look through history and you will see that some of the greatest instigators of wars have not just been men - nature verses nurture is perhaps the key to this - an interesting poem, thank you for sharing
