THE KEYS

Three locks for freedom
Ten keys for escape
Two extras for boredom
The fifth for the rape

Tenth key to your secret
Fourth key for your faith
One padlock for buglers
Nine keys in the safe

Third key has gone missing
Don't mention that door
Move carefully past
The crack in the floor

Hide key number seven
To lock number one
Try not to remember
Which key is gone

Eight key goes to future
A chest in a wreck
Past life is the second
First ones round your neck

The seconds a car key
The ninth is your pride
Number six is so precious
It locks up your life

Ghost of Heino
Great lyrical write about those keys we all keep searching for, losing, hiding, giving away, keeping.
What stronger symbol is there for modern mankind but the key.
As a woman I felt hit by the lock in this text. Made me carefully study my own heavy keyring, red cheeked as if exposed somehow.
