I wrote this about Leeds, Yorkshire, England, but it could apply to many cities.
Shades of the city
bounce off oneway
shatterproof glass
where clouds shift
on pseudo skies
framed in brushed aluminium
trompe d'oeil
Cranes,
omnipresent
orange sky gods
swing meccano girders
in primary colours
lines of new classic architecture
flow in mercurial precision
rising
Cellular space melds
silicon people
bouncing signals one to another
over the ozone layer
freeze framing temporary forevers
in plasma screen greenhouses
communication neutrons trail
whirlwinds of invisible fronds
thumping fragmented pulse
bassnotes
simulated brainwaves
flutter like tatters of striped
sceneofcrime tape
Where is the exorcist
to digitally reconstruct
the ghosts imprisoned
in the backtoback walls of the old city
buried in bulldozed coalstained
brokenbricks
with local foundry marks
branded in the kiln fires
of industrial decline
who sit on blankets
selling
The Big Issue
outside bright clean
wine bars?
