Endless rage

Freedom comes to those with nought to lose
The caged bird would seek to all efface
The captive soul would ever freedom choose
No chains of bondage would I ere embrace

The prison walls be strong with Portland stone
My keepers men who chain me for a wage
Though filled with loneliness I'm not alone
My companion my remorseless endless rage

My sincerity of intention my foe's dread
For banditry's endeavours held me true
Distrustful of all men it must be said
As baubles with my gun I did accrue

There was no bird more fleeting in the sky
This child this boy this man bereft of love
The fledging would grow hawk's wings soon to fly
Retribution and revenge his hand and glove

Now palisades of dungeon walls there be
The endless cycle of freedom and chains
Reflections of a time when I was free
My wounds now healed my blood now just dried stains

Once more into the battle I must go
To scale the walls into eternity
I need no friend to tell me what I know
That I in truth in rage shall n'er be free
Brendan.
