To April
April in her crown of splendourshedding warmth on bluebird wing.
Basking near an ice cream vendor,
I pray for a lasting spring.
Winter's snow lies still and glistening,
yet I hear the rivers crack.
As I bend my head in listening
spring is surely coming back.
Long I've prayed for daylight brighter
warming me of winter's clutch.
T'is my altar and my mitre
the blessed sunlights silky touch.
Now's the time for laughter ruddy -
now's the time for beer and book.
From the dewy grass I'll study
spring-time flowers by a brook.
