this poem examines the fire the passion and the cruelty of bullfighting it is from an actual incident
By M.A.Meddings.
There is blood on his Face,
And blood in his hair,
The crisp 'suit of lights',
No longer so rare.
The proud 'Diestro'
Can almost stand,
The site of the blood,
Staining the sand.
The bull this time,
Took longer to die,
Walking slowly away,
From the torment and trial.
Its unforced urine,
The sign of its fate,
Making it home,
To the 'Chequero's' gate.
Yet, before it achieves,
The haven it sees,
It shudders and stumbles,
Onto its kness.
Stricken and helpless,
And close to its death,
The maestro delivers
The final 'puyez'.
'Descabalo' strike,
The last thing to do,
A humane act,
Clean and true.
But the blood on his face,
And the blood in his hair,
Exhausted and sickened,
By this affair.
He walks slowly away,
No sword in his hand,
The razor sharp blade,
Stuck into the sand,
No black atrophied ears,
Held so aloft,
No chants of the crowd,
The silence is soft.
'Adios Torero',
Is all people say,
Ramon Virregas,
Is retiring today.
The end.
