on the 25th anniversary of John Lennon's senseless death
November 1980
Twenty-five years
And what have we done?
Listened and loved
And learned,
Your music forging
Our souls.
All we need is love,
Stuck in our minds
An illusive goal.
Imagine your world
Meeting ours.
Bringing the love and peace,
So obvious to you then,
So obvious to us now.
So simple.
How you would love
To see us today,
On the brink
Of understanding
Your eternal rules.
Twenty-five years
To find you.
Twenty-five years
And we are nearly
Giving peace a chance.
Should have done it
Yesterday.

November 1980
Dear John
Twenty-five years
And what have we done?
Listened and loved
And learned,
Your music forging
Our souls.
All we need is love,
Stuck in our minds
An illusive goal.
Imagine your world
Meeting ours.
Bringing the love and peace,
So obvious to you then,
So obvious to us now.
So simple.
How you would love
To see us today,
On the brink
Of understanding
Your eternal rules.
Twenty-five years
To find you.
Twenty-five years
And we are nearly
Giving peace a chance.
Should have done it
Yesterday.
