Can't I Be

You say you can never love me
For reasons you refuse to say.
You say you can only like me
And nothing more.

But you share with me the warmth of the sun
And the cool droplets of the rain.
We count the stars in the sky
As we wait for the night go by.

My mind whirls in dizzying confusion
As you ceaselessly feed me with illusion.
Can't I be the man in your lovely dreams?
Can't I be the flowing water
in your romantic stream?

You want to fly to heaven
And I want to be with you.
You want to catch the stardust.
It's in my heart loving and true.

My mind whirls in dizzying confusion
As you ceaselessly feed me with illusion.
Can't I be the man in your lovely dreams?
Can't I be the flowing water
in your romantic stream?

Winston, I think we have all been in this place one time or another. Unrequited love is truly a painful and sorrowful place, but in the end it is something we must accept. Love bites!
but your heart is beautifully expressed here.

So touching and true-to-life a rendering of that painful rejection, "I just want us to be friends"... Well done!
