More worries about poetbay
- I just posted this in the forum "Looking for editors"
This site was made for poets, and only poets can keep it alive, and as long as poets keep it alive, no one will have the heart to shut it down, least of all the creator, who has made a fantastic job by creating both poeter.se and poetbay.com, quite identical but at the same time so different.
As a newcomer I have tried to understand what's going on here, and I think I know it now. Jof has had troubles with complaints and has committed the mistake of engaging in them, more so in poeter.se than here. Poetbay.com has been tranquil in comparison, and it's still working concerning fees. If you pay a support fee here it works but not in poeter.se, which is too crowded. There poets quarrel and are thrown out but not here. Because of the strifes and personal conflicts at poeter.se, Jof has reached a "smärtgräns", an ultimate crisis of what he can bear, and to solve it has decided to jump off. I am not sure it is the right decision. He has done such a good job, so what he deserves would be a general request or rather petition from all his poets here and at poeter.se for him to remain and carry on.
I might present this comment of mine also at poeter.se and I might not. I haven't decided yet. It belongs here, since this poetbay was more seriously hit in losing its home page, although it was more favoured with less conflicts and a more intimately pervading harmony. If things turn out well as they should, it will continue unharmed.
It feels like speaking to a class after the headmaster has had a nervous breakdown, like urging the pupils for that very reason to do the better. Maybe they will.
Happy new year, wishes former school-teacher laila Roth.

Worries about poetbay
There appears to be more complaints here than at poeter.se although they are both run with the same system. There is a comprehensive writer's website in Norway called dikt.no charging no fees and with no blackmail restrictions, except that you are not allowed to publish more than one text in 24 hours. Its design is less attractive, but it's an alternative with sound morals, the editors are very wise in explicitly urging the writers to always make sure to keep copies of their texts, and you can use any language - there is a special English niche. Thought I should inform you here before my first week of freedom expires and I am condemned to limit myself to 5 texts a week and not more than 50 altogether. I can't become a supportive member here or at poeter.se simply for the practical reason that I am gone most of the year. The blackmail restrictions are really quite silly - when a poet has filled her quota of 50 poems or so she simply changes her name and address, like in ancient days when a newspaper was closed down by the censure of the authorities and immediately re-emerged under a different name. Still, I find this forum and poeter.se more attractive for their nice design and special favours than the very spartan dikt.no.More worries about poetbay
