A Twenty Dollar Hero

My spirit is down,
Emotions are sub zero,
Once again I'm seeking,
A twenty dollar hero.

A monkey parasite,
On my back it lives,
The only fun in life,
Is the fun that it gives.

Just another time,
I'm down on my knees,
How could my hero,
Do these things to me.

First it builds me up,
Just to tear me down,
Then suddenly my grin,
Translates into a frown.

Life isn't worth living,
The monkey screams with joy,
I wore the monkeys pride,
And he played me like a toy.

A twenty dollar hero,
Becomes another scam,
I calm the monkey,
With my life in his hands.

He quits the loud voices,
The hateful words he says,
My twenty dollar hero,
Is suddenly looking dead.

But the monkey lives,
Silent for the day,
But come back tomorrow,
You'll see his evil ways.

Morpheus
Simple and sweet. I particularly enjoy the last verse:

But the monkey lives,
Silent for the day,
But come back tomorrow,
You'll see his evil ways.

So very true. Excellent piece of work.
