To Be Her Friend

I lie awake,
With my thoughts,
Trying so hard,
To connect the dots,

This girl is sweet,
It's plain to see,
Yet her life,
Is misery,

The man she loves,
Did her bad,
He threw away,
All they had,

A piece of shit,
I must proclaim,
Why would he,
Cause her pain,

I pause my thoughts,
For some while,
I glance at her,
With a smile,

She finds comfort,
In her sleep,
That when she wakes,
She can not keep,

She acts just fine,
Fighting fears,
But deep within,
She's crying tears,

So much beauty,
I can see,
What a woman,
She could be,

With some help,
From a man,
That takes the time,
To be her friend,

A man that will,
Hold her close,
Love her truly,
And not let go.

I find this very appealing to read, being a romantic at heart. This is very well constructed with an excellent rhythmic flow that delivers the message with strong impact.
