When it never rained
Thoughts of you are like the castleswe built in the sand and when the
tide came in we fought a losing battle
of moats and fortifications.
Afterwards, washing the grittiness
wrapped in bathrobes, sipping,
a sunburnt neck that prickled
and your arm across my shoulders.
Like watching reruns of television,
the windbreak by the door and
the kite you tried to make
but broke on its maiden voyage.
These are the thoughts of you
the memories I will always keep,
a sunny day in paradise when,
as in childhood summers
it never would have rained.
