Pain and Fear
Alone
And old.
Alone,
With pain.
Alone
With fear.
Precious
Human contact,
The only lifeline.
Necessary
As breath.
The gentle touch
Of a passing
Neighbour,
The jolly banter
Of the milkman,
The caring librarian
Saving her favourite
Author for her,
The little girl
Smiling a wave,
Fills the fragile,
Old lady's heart
With so much
Warmth,
And for a moment,
She forgets
Her pain.
