Time shifts, attitudes, and toys.
Guns as toys a long time ago
Given as gifts for years in a row.
Little boys mimicking western scenes
Shooting the bad guys and acting out dreams.
Dreams of living the American way
Exploring nature day by day.
A simpler time with fewer distractions
No pills to pop for over-reactions.
No fancy electronics to keep kids inside
No cells, few cars to go for long rides.
Walking or biking to get around town
No parents to argue if struck out at the mound.
Respect came first to Always Remember
Beginning in October to the end of September
Kids were certainly different back then
The gifts of weapons were just pretend.
Fast forward to this new generation
Guns for revenge to satisfy elations.
Fantasy shootings for rapid eliminations
Hate crimes up in the name of discrimination.
No more guns for gifts to boys
Parents try a different ploy.
Too little too late as guns can be found
In cupboards in closets, or just laying around.
Guns at stores easy to buy
Sold on streets for many to get high.
Once a play toy to amuse in the past
Out of control, how long can we last?
