I watched the tears land on the grass, but
I couldn't watch them fall from your eyes.

Our Fault

I watched your lips telling me it's over,
wondering, would I see them again?
I had turned for a moment and your mind –
once so in tune with mine –
became weary of fighting your troubles.
Leaving you alone in battle:
My fault.

You walk away; I call you back,
grasping meekly at the fleeting dream
of our love, from which I can't awake.
Not turning around,
brusquely, you carried it away with you.
Leaving me shaken, and hollow:
Your fault.

Jaded, my eyes search school for yours
– and for a second they meet –
but turn aptly away,
guilty of the hope they brought us;
for hope was painful, and silence promising.
Leaving too much unsaid,
truly, Our fault.
