A sonnet, in a sense continuing my PLUTONIC SONNETS (PublishAmerica 2008, at www.publishamerica.com)...
First day of winter? That is what some say
Tomorrow is; I've have had it up to here!
For weeks it's been damn cold! What kind of way
Is this to spread some seasonal good cheer?
Are we indeed expected to await
Christmas itself to find reason enough
For hope, by joining those who celebrate
St. Nick and Baby Jesus and such stuff?
No, no! For bright and early in the morn
Our Earth will tip away most from our Sun;
And that is when new hope is truly born,
For short'ning days precisely then are done!
Astronomy is what I would we b'lieve,
And celebrate this glorious Solstice Eve!

A Solstice-Eve Sonnet

Is this to spread some seasonal good cheer?
Are we indeed expected to await

And that is when new hope is truly born,
