Haunting Me
When we have been apart for quite a while,
When I begin to wonder how you are,
No stretch of time nor truly any mile
Looms too long between us or too far.
For when my dreaming conjures up your face
My heart begins conducting double-time;
Those potent memories I can't erase,
They give me a discomfort most sublime.
I sometimes almost wish you were in reach,
Reviving that electric life inside.
Your image fills my mind and I beseech
The gods to give me back my humble pride.
I wish I could forget you but I know
I'll not convince my heart to let you go.
