Just some thoughts...

They Paved Paradise

A friend said to me recently
That he had never been in love
In 45 years of his life
And a 22 year marriage
My first reaction was shock
Then pity, then I pondered
The possibility that just maybe
We need to feel loss
To understand we loved
But took it for granted
And that someone that has gained
All he could want in life
Is not truly grateful for what they have
Until it's gone, like the song
It helps me to appreciate
The honesty in my solitude
I would rather live alone
Than in a loveless lie
And so I wait, and heal
For what is real
My friend looks at me,
And asks am I okay,
I looked miles away.
I reply I'm fine, smile to myself
Wish him a happy easter
And disappear into the crowd...

"Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone"...

Yes, that's true, but only a small part of the truth... Wow, one could sit and discuss about this over many a cup of tea...

Thank you for a good and thought-provoking text!

I bet your friend's situation is more common than you would expect. You would be surprised how many marry out of fear of being alone.

Nice to meet a fellow Joni fan, BTW!
