Requiem for bittersweet summers
I can still see you there with the pillow that
still smelled of her and
Tears burning in your eyes
In anger you threw
across the bright bedroom
all the books she had left behind
and I wish I had put my arms around your shoulders
I remember us climbing trees, swimming in the sea
and drinking lemonade with pink straws
and I remember drinking lukewarm cider
how you kissed my lips
only once
rosy scarlet were my cheeks the next day
and I wish I had put my arms around your shoulders
And even over
this sunset casual pint of beer
do I wish I could reach out
just take your hand
Then taste your skin,
never let you go
Wake up in the morning
with your arms around my shoulders
