Pictures We Drew
There were so many things I wanted to say
I remember your words stinging still
Sending arrows of glass through my mind
Why we couldn't be, immaterial now
All that is left is the sadness of what was lost
What we could have been is no longer
Still there is this weight in my heart
And your face occupies my every thought
You were the man I admired from afar
We never had our chance, you had a family
I had my own life too, it wasn't meant to be
But then years go by, our situations change
We finally found each other, as if destined
I held the object of my obsession in my hands
Slowly, I saw your faults, you saw mine
What we thought we knew shattered
Tragically we ended, bitter and resentful
For not being what we dreamed we were
The time to analyse is over, long gone
I find myself back where I started
Admiring the man you are, from afar
Somehow still out of my reach,
Knowing we can never be again
The man on the other side of the glass
The one I see but cannot touch
Whom I will love beyond my last breath
Because for a time, you were mine
And together, we were beautiful
