Going back in time a bit
I think; I hope. Written
after reading some poetry
by Raymond Carver
she enters the stage
without knowing
that every man
is watching her
she doesn't see
in them
the lust
the total mistrust
the panic in their thoughts
their misguided desire
for this woman
who will never
be controlled
by a fear
of being a woman
in a world
where men
cannot help
themselves
yet even try
to imagine
that they could add
strength
to the courage
that bears
no definition
nor shame
for being
the creator
the nurturer
the giver
not the sinner
it's their minds
that need surpassing
reclassing
so then they'll see
that she exists
without them
as a woman
not an object
for a man
but an equal being
a human being
no greater than them
in her eyes
yet in theirs
they still despise
the control they give
that she doesn't want
or need
to be the mother
the liberator
the revelator
to this group of men
that will never know
the way it is
for a woman
