Drifting
Drifting in and out of love on such uncertain tides
Currents ever treacherous in their flow
And if I would but could ignore all those whispered asides
For they sap my spirit, a sad cruel undertow
Drifting ever drifting no direction to my course
No charts or compass have I to guide me
Horizons clouded and obscure with my endless remorse
Lost to me seas of tranquillity
Drifting now through memories shallow in their depth
My hedonistic ship in endless flight
Sailing on a sea of tears abandoned lovers wept
for loves swift passing like ships in the night
Drifting like some flotsam clinging to my destiny
Bereft safe harbour in stormy seas of shame
slowly drowning in the sorrow of my duplicity
Shall I ever sight terra firma's welcome flame.
Brendan.
