The Waitress at the Hooters Up the Street

She smiles at every customer
Her teeth are white and straight
She has beautiful breasts

She dyes her hair blonde
She has a cat
Her shower curtain is plain white

She took horseback riding lessons when she was a girl
Her favorite toy was a Barbie
She had sex last night

She's never left the state
Her apartment is messy
She doesn't have a boyfriend

She went to college for a year
She was going to be a vet
She loves animals

Her mom doesn't like what she does
Her dad doesn't acknowledge it
She knows she disappoints them

Her clothes hamper smells like chicken wings
Sometimes at night she cries
She feels like a failure

She was pregnant once
She doesn't have any children
She gets a manicure every week

She's slept with her boss
She thinks about stripping
She works the lunch shift

She smiles at me and takes my order
She flirts and touches my arm
I leave her an ok tip

Great observational poem here Rap! And that final line was pounding! lol

Ok tip? I assume the service wasn't great then? lol

Smiling at you

Tai, a bit of a flirt herself, but there you go! some things just come naturally.

Well done--much of life's sad and seedy side here.

Such a sad, but unfortunately true, assessment that profiles many a woman who has made these choices. She is her own self imposed victim of exploitation who also exploits. Your descriptions are right on excellent in this very well written piece.

Sad and touching portrait of a young soul who scores well in marketing her burgers ...... you integrate so many facets of her life but we feel sadness for all she isn't .... in her journey through life!
