Hmm just counted 7 'buts' in here.... I guess that just makes the first line stronger... hehe ;-)
Ok, yeah, I've got issues,
But you can keep the tissues
I haven't shed a tear for you this time
I was where I shouldn't be
One too many drinks or three
But I never lost the fact that you're not mine
"You can crash here, we'll just hug"
But your tone was kinda smug
"Hey I know I could woo you if I wanted"
I laugh, "Oh is that so?"
You kicked me out a year ago
Don't let my smile fool you, I'm still haunted
Tipsy and tired, the bed is warm
We curl into familiar forms
You whisper in my ear you want to kiss me
My head begins to spin
And self betrayal is a sin
But my ego leaps, could it be you miss me?
Then, shocking to myself
I learned some things upon my shelf
Where you left me for a year amid the dust
Instead of sighing "What the heck"
I am saved by self respect
Even for you, I can't trade love for lust
So yes, I still love you
But I hold myself above you
Right on the pedestal where you once sat
I'll accept you as a friend
But you won't hurt me again
My heart knows I deserve better than that
I wake before you in the morning
Smile beside familiar snoring
But oh so proud I haven't given in
The woman you rejected
Is stronger, self protected
I am not your conquest, CHECK! I win.
