Goodbye Papa
Writing with hands as light and jittery as butterflies
And a heavy heart, as if it were full of lead
Yet as difficult my task seems right now,
It is to pay homage, and for myself to eventually heal
To somehow overcome the loss of a beautiful man
Who bounced my mother, myself, my son on his knee as babes
His knowledge endless, his love boundless
Strength in his hands only matched by the softness in his gaze
A man of God who not only knew forgiveness but lived it
His mere presence compelled one to be the best we could be
His arms wide enough to encompass not only family
But all those who grew up with us, dear to him as blood
Eyes that filled with tears and compassion for others
When he was broken, he mended fences for tea and scones
Gnarled skillful fingers from years of carpentry
Giving aid to anyone in need, asking nothing in return
I can still remember the excitement of hearing his van
The smell of spearmint and Californian poppy oil....
He passed away today, that big heart could take no more
He was my Superman, my Santa, my mentor, my Grandfather
We will miss you Papa, may our lives be a tribute to you and all you gave to us, I will feel forever blessed...xxxxxxxxxxxx
