Poem about youthful memories of freedom
I often dream that, as a boy
I could truly fly
But I was told that it was wrong
But no one told me why
So many things in life we do
That "they" would not allow
But I could never see
The when or why or how
I was always told
What I could not do or say
Just "because" it was "wrong"
But who the heck were "they"?
In dreams my mind could clearly see
The simple magic that it would take
So I could soar and just be me
And still do so when I wake
Today I know that I did fly
Took full freedom into flight
Sailed on into a darkened sky
And vanished in the night
