well isn't it?

funny the things

funny the things a guy remembers
some fifty years ago dad took me to town
to buy my first billfold
black split-cowhide and inside
a grainy black-and-white of cary grant
going home i asked who's cary grant
dad said he didn't know

we were not a movie-going family

and to this day i'm glad i had a dad
who sometimes said he didn't know
and who knew when a guy
needed a billfold even if
he didn't know
who cary
grant
was

funny
the things
a guy remembers

A perfect moment in time to recreate so that we might enjoy it along with you, good Sir. I went to a lot of movies as a child so the house would be quiet for my dad so he could sleep during the day and work the graveyard shift at an aircraft plant. He might not have known who Cary Grant was, either, but I did. lol

A most marvelous snap shot of an memory that seems unrelated to anything else... a fine piece indeed!

A lovely walk down your memory lane Rob! Sometimes our childhoods can throw up a peaceful place in our memories, and this poem took me to one or two.

Thank you for sharing you and your father. He sounds like a wonderful man, like his son.

Smiling at you
