Twice Removed
They take my hand, they smile
"We always thought you were the one
You two make such a lovely couple
We were devastated when we heard....."
I gaze down at my beloved
The closed casket, shiny handles
I wonder how a person so big
Can fit in that tiny box
The ceremony is mercifully short
Photographs of times gone by
Flash on the screen to a song about heros
I am numb, alone, and so in need of one
I want to run to him, hold him
But my love is up there, on the stage
With his family, giving his mother's eulogy
While I, at the back of the room, am the ex....
