A short story written on short lines.

A cautionary tale...

Trigger-Happy

Missing the midnite bus,
No money for a cab,
She started to hitch.

A clean white car,
With a clean cut driver,
Stopped to help.

Chatting easily,
They drove along
The black streets,
The empty streets.

By the market,
He asked if she
Wasn't afraid of
Rape.

Stabbed through by
A terrifying, cold panic,
She bluffed her way out,
Laughing, that she was strong,
And would only give in
If someone pulled a knife,
Or a gun...

And as she spoke,
He drew a gun,
From his coat pocket,
And aimed it at her
Face.

She thought,
He looked too nice,
To be a maniac.

Laughing the fear away,
She glanced down
And saw a two-way radio,
Under the dash.

Now she understood,
He was a plain clothes,
Bobby.
A cop teaching her,
A lesson,
Never to hitchhike,
At midnite...
