Unmusical poetry

I want write a song

a soft
heart-warming
heart-breaking song

one that will live inside those that hear it
will trigger their tears, their smiles, their changes

one that paralyzes you
and makes you drift within its lyrics until it is over

A beautiful, melodious song
soft yet sharp
light yet dark
drifting and rolling yet challenging

I want to write and sing this

But my words only come out without music

I have some very real personal reflections from this text. I started playing guitar long before I became passionate about writing and have written a few songs of which one, perhaps two, have touched the hearts of others. While expressing in this way is beautiful, I've come to see the combination of music and words as a medium which - through its inherent character; the blending of two creative forms - is always going to a have greater chance of reaching in deep and stirring the emotions.

The challenge in writing without music is to create the same. Words on their own can still possess lyrical mastery, just as listening to a lone Cellist can bring tears to our eyes; any form of individual creative expression has that potential.

Your poem expresses a desire to blend music and poetry through the singular vehicle of poetry. I hope you pursue the former and continue to use the latter - I have a feeling you will.
