Messages from the Night

you walked out of the mist and into my world
a rare light from a place long ago
watching you carry
a kindness and calm
I could do nothing but fall
but wish and hope

your image stayed with me
through the quiet of still breathing
and with caution
I kept you there safe
not wanting to turn
the glow of your form
into a notion
of how you might be
I prayed
in the illusion of my unworthiness
that you would see
the part that I was hiding
the glow that was also in me

we stood in a field
I remained distant,
demur and not sure
if you'd see through the crowd
of my yearning, my long
to hear you whisper sweet song
into a soul that had waited forever

and at last face to face
as I trembled with hope
you spoke words
that told me you loved me
and with the heat from your lips
as they touched against mine
I swooned
and in an instant transformed
then I woke
from my dream
and you were gone

J. E.
Beautifully written, somehow reminding me of Hermann Hesses "Demian" at the beginning. And I know these dreams.
