inspired by Rilke

Life

it must be so
that fragrance lost
though once beheld
forever drifts
to others' taste
for in this life
when gifts were plenty
and sun dew pried
the simplest smile
that youth were me
that thought long past
so hasten you
to taste its fruit
for you've one chance
to dance this field
to feel the sweet
of springtime's song
and through the heat
of summer's lot
embrace you will
for soon forgot
with autumn's breath
last scent of colour
till winter takes
your life away
feel it now
for when it's lost
with eyes then closed
it must be so

Yeah, we forget to "make hay while the sun shines"
and then whine for the lost time...
Lovely!

Love it. Love it. Love it. . . .but it is so bittersweet that it makes my bones ache. I suppose that pain should also be appreciated. C'est la vie.

Thanks for this.

Yep! This puts it into focus alright. The salad days always looming as an unattainable benchmark but still a fond memory just the same..
Much enjoyed Eli.
Thanks
