Wings and knives
He felt the fluttering of butterfly wingsThrough his convoluted thoughts
He knew they were her perception
Of how the angels sing
She somehow managed to wrap her essence
Around his heart and into his soul
It brought him peace until the moment
She said "I must now go"
She walked away but said she loved him
This he could not understand
How a woman could love a man
And then cast him to the sand
He felt the stabs of tiny knives
Cascading 'round his heart
He knew they were her way of saying
We both lead separate lives
