The Universe

"Universe? It's where we are and it's everything all around us, it's the stars and beyond them to places that no one will ever find."

She was five years old and she looked at me with grave concern.

"It can't be dad; the universe can't be that far away."

"Well, it is sweetheart, at least most of it is, I promise you."

"But what about mum: she said she was going there and if she does, well, we might never find her again."

"But," I tried to explain, "she can't go there; she's already there; all of us are. We are in the universe already, but we are just a small, very small and tiny part of it."

Now a look of confusion came over her face.

"But mum said." Then a silent pondering.

"What did she say darling, what did your mum say?"

"She said that she was going to the universe to study"

"Ah," the penny dropped. "Sweetheart, I think I need to explain to you the difference between universe and university."
