One Leader's Credo

Dream no small dreams. Seek no small visions. Make no small plans.

Allow time and money to be resources not demands.
Visions do not operate on projected time lines.
Money is only a poor substitute for creativity.

Hire only people who know more than you do.

Respect all those whom you lead.

Be a servant to those who have entrusted their leadership to you.

Risk being a friend to your team members.

Value the team as much as the project.

There are people characterized as matches and those that are candles.
Know that at any time you could be one, or the other, or both.

State your vision. Give your team rights to shape it and acquire ownership.
It will be their responsibility to achieve it.
Get out of the way.
You are the match. They are the candles.

Insure that your team is fed, clothed, paid well and possesses all resources
necessary to the task.
Then take care of yourself.

Every member of your staff has a great idea or vision that you have an obligation to try to make happen. They are the match. You are the candle.

Celebrate error as an indicator of growth.
Error is merely an unexpected
outcome requiring exploration, alteration or redirection.

Be angry with events but never with people. Then get over it and move on.

Laugh loud and often. Cry when you have to.
You've earned the right to do both.

Rob Graber
I enjoyed this uplifting write--seems like the recipe for an environment exactly unlike the one with which we see "Dilbert" having to cope!
