I wrote this almost two years ago. Making tiny edits over time. It has many different meanings. What matters is which appeals to you the most. Enjoy :-)
One too weak to fight,
All those years for the cause,
Wasted on forgotten wars...
Wasted on false laws.
A similar day begins...
One where no one wins.
Yet still high are our chins,
We are not yet defeated,
Our souls lost
Our purpose entwined within.
He gazed across a barren city scape
She laid in the centre, breathing her last, the heart of the man who chose his soul over her. The purple glow of the setting sun of the alien land cemented the dismal situation in its cold retreat.
Buildings laid in ruins, rubble leaving an untraversable path, a wake of destruction. Biological life long gone over the years, replaced by the eve of a new world, alien to the old one. A world that would lack pain, but happiness as well. A world without feeling. A world without a heart, without her. He fell to his knees realising his errors from the peak of the last piece of untouched earth, where the water met the mountains. That Holy place... Realisation swept over him like a nuclear wave, obliterating his senses for a moment. He drifted to a place somewhere between existence and nothingness, where she now was...
The sight of her in her purity, beauty and completeness brought back a plethora of emotions. Sadness, guilt, failure, emptiness and a world of loss, all pulsated within him bringing even more urgency to leave this place... But she was there, at the centre, the single light that was fading. That once lit his world. Then... for the first time in eons he felt that emotion he had all but forgotten... love. Love was one that when held in its true sense was so much more than just a four letter word. Indescribable through expression. Unbounded by simple feeling. He stretched his hand and extended a single finger to touch her face. As his hand closed the distance between them her glow began to pulsate. A new kind of warmth now took over him in a close embrace and he could feel her arms around him. Yet here she was in front of him...
In the moment that he touched her eternities passed. Galaxies were born and stars died. Yet in this future he could see nothing, just emptiness... except for the two of them, the final survivors. He began to tremble, a glow of his own now swelling around him. If he could die for her again as he had hundreds of times before he would again. His simple loss of heart for a moment caused all of this... And then they were back to exisitence, or at least he was.
A silent scream echoed across the sky. Tidal waves of polluted water flooded the lands, only managing to shift the debris. Purpose was now gone. Oblivion had finally arrived at this final dawn. The sun rose a final time, painstakingly. He accepted his punishment willingly, his final emptiness, comforted only by a million millions of lifetimes.
