I Said No
Sauntering through my front door
Like you just walked out yesterday
My breath catches in my throat,
But I smile and say... g'day...
How are you? Been working hard?
Of course I know you do
Weeks of engine grease and sunburn
Still looks so good on you
"I didn't want to come here"
You say, your eyes study the floor
"I know I can't give you what you want
I shouldn't see you anymore"
I make the coffee that I promised
And back and forth we throw
The love that we deny ourselves
The night that I said no....
You're in that road train somewhere
On your beloved open road
Didn't say I miss you like the sun
But I'm sure deep down, you know.
