It Was All A Lie

I thought men were supposed to sacrifice for their families,
Not for their affairs, things that aren’t even there and their brandies.
I thought a boy was supposed to be like his father,
Proud, a gentlemen to all girls, and especially grateful to his mother.
I thought a man was supposed to care for their wives,
Not hurt them, fight with them and wishing they were out of their lives.
I thought a father was supposed to be there for his children,
Not to walk out on them, and make them live a life that’s torn apart and broken.

But you left me; we; us.
You left us, and you still continue to leave us.
You have no pride in what you have created,
And you don’t see that we are truly gifted.
But our gifts and talents are hidden to you,
Because smoking and drinking is all you ever do.
It masks the reality,
And it only makes you angry.
But you don’t care,
You probably don’t remember that its our hearts we are willing to share,
And it’s not fair,
Because we’re the ones who never stop waiting for you to care.
You say you love us,
But you never support or care or love on a regular basis.
We feel neglected by someone we used to look up to,
And now we’re wondering where you’ve gone to.
You can’t see that we’re just waiting for you to find out,
What children and fatherhood and a family is all about.
But in the end
We know we’ll always be disappointed,
Because we know you’ll always be blinded.

I thought men were supposed to sacrifice for their families,
Boys were supposed to be like their fathers,
Men were supposed to care for their wives,
And fathers were supposed to be there for their children,
But you are living proof that it was all a lie.
