It's Only A Ring.
It's Only A RingOne day in March, the minister said
With these rings I thee wed
So we had all the traditions
We had all the grace
And she's weeps new tears
down her face.
Oh please I said
No need to cry
As I gently wiped
the tears from her eyes.
I said my bride
It's a just a ring
It really is
no big thing.
Off and on went my ring
It was a game
It brought a grin
Besides
I have a watch
a neck lace too
Now they look cool, to have these two
But a ring!
It's just a thing
It got a bit tough,
As years passed by
I didn't need my ring
I just said why?
It's in my draw, cupboard or coat
Oh, hang on
I went fishing
It could be in the boat
Besides
who is she to complain
It's just a ring
It really is
no big thing.
Twenty-five years on was mine silver or gold
That she asks me, I am told
So its time again, to do I the right thing
So I went and brought her another ring
It was all about tradition and grace
And again it bought
new tears to her face
I still can't see all the fuss
Over this thing
Women like so much
Now were not
Together as one
All our love had long been done
We kissed and said
keep well and goodbye
But not a tear fell
from her eye.
Today I look
The happiness others have
They love each other
Like two white doves
And they both wear
those silly little things
Who would think possible
The happiness they bring
I am sad now
as I sit lonely and quiet
Society says I can't wear thee ring
It's funny but I want to
just for the good memories
it would bring
Maybe I could buy another
but that would be dumb
Because I love no other
to call my one
I understand now
that silly little ring
maybe it's thee thing
that one true love brings
I turn off my light
As in tradition and grace
To hide the tears
Rolling down my face.
