Vultures

Black vultures
Gathering round my head,
Sunbathing in Sinai,
Friends had gone ahead.

Eyes opened,
I suddenly
Knew what
They knew:
No water,
No friends,
She won't
Last long.

And so
They waited
And watched
Patiently,
Circling my
Marked
Head.

For they knew
A serpent
Was on its
Way.
He too
Sensing
Easy prey.

I hauled up
My bikini,
And barefoot,
Ran for my life.

Like a novel, you expressed many a feeling, and told a story. Thanks for sharing this.

I can just hear those vultures saying, "damn, she got away," and the snake morosely slithering back to his sand-encrusted existence, shaking his weary head in dismay.

This DID make me laugh.
