It has been a year. Recovery was eight days in hospital and four months at home but thank God, no symptoms or handicaps. Will it return?

Insha'Allah

Stroke!

Slowly with invisible malicious intent
It crept up on bat wings
And entered me
Blindsided
While standing by the window
At first I was unalarmed
Blurred vision due to dirty glasses
But only my left eye
The white opacity unnerving
It rested a while
I drove for help while it lay dormant
A hiatus of evil intent on killing my brain
Then it sprung
Consciousness left with a heartbeat
Only to return as pulsing
writhing undulating scenes of
Cityscapes that ended in the drama
of a faintly remembered car crash.
My consciousness demanding I continue
fully focused without consequence to the ER
Arrival Stumbling Slurring
All my solid world impossibly in sinuous motion
The gurney
People yelling
Blank oblivion
Awake God only knows when and where
No effects no change no symptoms
A dream...
No reality was the horror I had felt and seen
It was once more at rest
Waiting to erupt again at will
To wantonly shake my self
Like a terrier with a rat
Waiting...

It's good to know that even though you have had a bad experiance, you have driven motivation and inspiration out of it. You're a strong person, and this is brilliant write. Thanks for sharing.

Regards,
John.

Gut-wrenching and harrowing . . . one of my greatest fears. I'm not sure which would be worse, the initial experience or the waiting. May your first be your only. You have too much to share with us, to teach us.

Written almost with dispassion, not quite. How could it be?
"crept up on bat wings" is surprising, I think of a sledge hammer.
Sad and vidid, Joe, and a one-off we hope (pray).

This is a very vivid depiction of a very personal event. Glad you've recovered and I hope it never returns.
