Brick Road

Time to retrace my steps so I can build the road I am supposed to follow

I take a step back

There you stand
beautiful
inspiring
amazing
a blinding light so bright I cannot see myself
only how you reflect in me
and don't

I take another step

Them, in love and high on belief, opening their arms for who they think I am
Me, with my new-found hope and rope to cling to
A community of love and
I later found
conditional love
A love hushing me to sleep and a name
a definition they see before they see me
a poison to my heart

and another step

I am lost in my mind, in my imagination
but true and strong
So many things I have grown out of
But the core unaffected by the world

My first step stone:
What is it I cannot love?

My corner stone:
What is it I love?

Don't take my hand
this is a road I must build alone

This is an amazing poem! I physically felt the stepping back and then the tentative building of a road to the future.

I very much like the thought of taking several steps back to find the path forward, searching for the cornerstone of love. Perhaps we all do this but no one has articulated it half so well.

I have to use the WOW word, and to add that this is stunning.

It's almost like a brainstorming exercise, and yet still tells a story that touches deeply on the personal experience.

I always look to give a lower rating in an area that falls behind - I couldn't find any this time.

Thanks for sharing.
